Bribery and Corruption
This area of Regulatory Law covers:
- Offering, promising or giving a bribe to another person;
- Requesting, agreeing to receive or accepting a bribe from another person;
- Bribing a foreign public official; and
- The corporate offence of failing to prevent bribery
We have a strong track record in defending and advising individuals and businesses in bribery and corruption cases.
Investigating bribery and corruption is high on the agenda for the authorities around the world. In the UK, the key Regulatory bodies involved are the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), National Crime Agency (NCA) and the police. However, the cross-border nature of many such cases means that cases often involve multiple jurisdictions and multiple overseas Regulatory agencies.
How we can help
As with all of our work, we are well aware of the financial and reputational risks of being investigated for bribery and/or corruption. How we plan to defend a client, as ever, depends on the facts of the case and ranges from negotiating with the authorities so no criminal charge is brought, via entering into an immunity or plea agreement, to helping a client mount a robust defence at trial.
